چکیده
Commonly, modification of surfaces with thermoresponsive polymers is performed using poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (poly(NIPAM)). However, integration poly(NIPAM) a second polymer to obtain more complex copolymer structures has proven challenging due inherently poorly controllable polymerization characteristics acrylamides. In this study, (N-(2-methacryloyloxyethyl)pyrrolidone (NMEP) synthesized and polymerized under controlled conditions from silicon oxide substrates via surface-initiated atom transfer radical (SI-ATRP) produce poly(NMEP) brushes. The livingness the brushes demonstrated by reinitiation oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate diblock Following extensive characterization, reversible behavior these phase-controlled AFM topography measurements in an aqueous liquid environment. These indicate that at 27 °C are solvated extend away surface, whereas 60 insoluble reside collapsed conformation. Material systems that can be used to flexibly and precisely define the chemical nature and molecular arrangement of a surface would be invaluable for the control of complex biointerfacial interactions. متن کاملThe Conformation of Thermoresponsive Polymer Brushes Probed by Optical Reflectivity.
We describe a microscope-based optical setup that allows us to perform space- and time-resolved measurements of the spectral reflectance of transparent substrates coated with ultrathin films. This technique is applied to investigate the behavior in water of thermosensitive polymer brushes made of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) grafted on glass. We show that spectral reflectance measurements yield ...

Surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) has been used to prepare antifouling copolymer brushes based on 2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethyl methacrylate (MEO(2)MA) and hydroxyl-terminated oligo(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (HOEGMA). The amount of hydroxyl reactive groups incorporated into the brushes was varied by changing the composition of the monomer mixture. These coatings were ...

We probe, using the surface forces apparatus, the thermal response of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) brushes of various grafting densities, grown from plasma-activated mica by means of surface-initiated polymerization. We thus show that dense thermoresponsive brushes collapse gradually as temperature is increased and that grafting density greatly affects their ability to swell: the swelli...

The colloidal stability and thermoresponsive behavior of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) brushes grafted from cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) of varying graft densities and molecular weights was investigated. Indication of the grafted polymer brushes was obtained after AFM imaging of CNCs adsorbed on silica. Also, aggregation of the nanoparticles carrying grafts of high degree of polymerization was o...
